Families in England are getting primary school offers, with one in 10 likely to miss out on their first choice.

There are big regional variations each year - with authorities such as the East Riding of Yorkshire, Northumberland and Rutland having more than 97% of families getting their first preferences.

For the past decade, primary schools have been building extra classrooms as pupil numbers rose by about 15% between 2009 and 2018, up to 4.7 million. School standards minister Nick Gibb said standards had risen and the primary school sector was"unrecognisable from a generation ago". "What this means in practice is that even in instances where parents aren't getting the news they hoped for today, the likelihood is that their child will be attending a school which will provide a first-class education," said Mr Gibb.

Primary school will give pupils Friday afternoons off as children 'lack focus' by end of weekA primary school is to give pupils Friday afternoons off as they say that children "lack focus" by the end of the week. Parents get strung up for taking a child out of school during term time... but it's okay for teachers to scrap Fridays? Hypocrisy in Education Lots of social & family issues associated with such a decision. So teaching them it's alright to lack focus on Friday is not just an excuse for teachers who are contacted already to work just 190 days a year already, is OK. What happens when they go out to work, it's alright to not work Friday afternoon.

Parents slam school for holding tea party just for pupils with 100% attendancePackmoor Ormiston Academy in Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire, laid on a chocolate fountain and a selection of tasty cakes It’s called an “incentive” - make sure your kids are in everyday and they can and have a cupcake and a carrot stick. They did it twenty years ago excuse me forty years ago, education was invented to mKe your kids be little future slaves, attendance is important i the work force, Roman trait! Tea party Absolutely ridiculous how people are complaining about a school rewarding something that deserves rewarding. As far as I’m aware those children who didn’t get 100% weren’t punished although some comments are making it sound like they were. There’s no issue here

Parents' fury over school's 'exclusive tea party' for pupils with 100% attendance - as sick kids snubbedFURIOUS parents have slammed a school’s “exclusive tea party” for pupils with 100 per cent attendance as sick kids are left snubbed. Dozens of children at Packmoor Ormiston Academ… Fully agree treat for the extra effort to do better for your education and school.workers also get rewards for not taking sick days off, The concept is good but too extreme... Some kids have an element of special needs, asthma need an occasional hospital appointment or sometimes kids get tummy bugs. Maybe a 90-95% would be more fair. Not realistic for all kids 🙄 All schools give perks to kids with 100%. I see both side. Its harsh if your child has had a genuine illness but also the kids with 100% should get a treat for the achievment
