Education Minister Stephen Lecce announced the new and revamped curriculum Monday afternoon, saying a new Grade 10 course in computer studies will be launched next fall, as well as the overhaul of technological education starting in Grade 9 in 2024.

Education Minister Stephen Lecce announced the new and revamped curriculum — the first in more than a decade — Monday afternoon, saying a new Grade 10 course in computer studies will be launched next fall, as well as the overhaul of technological education starting in Grade 9 in 2024.

He noted the current Grade 10 introduction to computer studies was last updated in 2008, before widespread use of smartphones or automated cars and artificial intelligence. It will be replaced with a course entitled “digital technology in the changing world.” This is “another step by our government to ensure students are prepared for the jobs of the future,” Lecce also said. “This change will provide students with hands-on experience with technology, expose them to real-life problem solving, and enhance learning that focuses on giving young people the skills to think critically, dream boldly and chart new pathways forward for our economy.”

Is this like buying hospital beds? There’ll be computers, etc. , but no trained staff to teach about it. 100% sure about that.

Give the kids and teachers the resources to promote critical thinking as well. Don’t just turn them into tech bots.

AI will have some of it's greatest impact on tech jobs. This is absolutely ridiculous. Kids should be given solid educations in analytical and creative thinking, and given resources and skills to participate as empathetic people in their society. Skills training is for college.

onted

What year and how much cash Lol

Your rollout will be underfunded, understaffed and ill equipped just like the math and science program changes in elementary…

*without any teachers or resources (NB: Ontario is experiencing a massive teacher shortage atm - so many unfilled jobs for contract teachers, LTOs and especially daily OTs. In particular, it's virtually impossible to find qualified French, Comp Sci, Business and Tech teachers.)

Sflecce how about a new class called “Real Life Mathematics”. Kids know nothing about taking care of things like student debt or regular financing like how loans work. They need this badly.

Every student needs to at least know Excel fairly deeply before graduation.

Did anyone ask him where he'll get the teachers as a computer programmer can make far, far more than in teaching. Devil is in the details folks

Data breach by the fordnation government?

Let's hope that the rollout will be better planned, have PD funding and be more effective than the sex ed and math messes.

What did they do to sex education though? Lol

Lazy teachers won't like this.

More confusing subiminal feel good programs minus Critical Thought or is it thoughtless. I do like how they know what is good for us. Amazing how stupid and reliant we are and leashed led in achieving the narrative of one sided intelligence.

Misguided. Extra money should go to useful stuff like sports, shop class and home economics.

Staff shortages hit education systemThe Hastings and Prince Edward District School Board is gaining some ground in an uphill battle to fill staff ... Totally didn't see this coming. Underfunded by every political party, vilified by the ignorant, affected more than most of us by the half-assed pandemic measures.
