Ontario is updating its curriculum in both computer science and technological education to include more hands-on learning.

Education Minister Stephen Lecce says the changes will give students experience with new technology, expose them to real-life problem solving and prepare them for the job market.

The government says the updated computer studies curriculum will start with a new Grade 10 course in September and will give students the opportunity to apply coding concepts, build hands-on projects, and investigate artificial intelligence, cybersecurity and emerging technologies. The technological education curriculum updates are set to start with revised Grade 9 and 10 courses in September 2024.

The government says the updates will reflect automation advancements in agriculture, manufacturing, and construction, and the new course material will prepare students for careers as electricians and plumbers and in communications and manufacturing. Ontario last updated the technological education curriculum in 2009 and the computer science curriculum was last updated in 2008.

This is going to need to come with funding! Hands on projects and learning comes with material costs, working computers and equipment and proper software.

The TDSB Is D streaming English and math in grade 9 and 10. This means students of all abilities are in the same class. Some won’t be able to perform, others will be bored, classroom management becomes more difficult, and learning becomes sub par

Apparently all of our real world applications haven’t been noticed by Lecce who seems to think this is new 🤥

Not your best selfie eh Sflecce?! That's got to suck!

Onted is in such a short supply of Tech teachers that by the time this curriculum rolls out, a lot of tech programs will be closed due to lack of qualified staff.

Computers and tech is a fad. Just like email….

We have 5 devices for 27 + kids in classes. Spotty internet. We need the tools to learn, not a new curriculum.

At the same time they’re no longer finding computer labs for schools. Great. Lol.

This needs to happen in elementary school. Gr 10 is too late

Curriculum is always updated on a cyclical basis, with or without Lecce, he doesn’t have to “announce” it every time. My gr 10 is currently taking computer science and *gasp* it includes “hands on learning” and “coding”. What MOE can do is invest in updated technology for all

He must be getting ready to do something awful, create a distraction

Doug Ford using his computer and technology.

They better update the technology in schools then

Financial literacy?

Our five and six year olds are already learning these things. Get with the times, Lecce. You’re a disservice to our youth.

Why does everything need to be a full-blown announcement? (I actually blame parents for that.) We get it, you’re looking for recognition, great job. There you go now just make changes, do better, and put things in place that equip our children.

🤦‍♀️

Let's hope that the rollout will be better planned and more effective than the sex ed and math messes.

So now the slave auctioneer is making announcements magellanaero. VictorFedeli Do you want me to prove to you that this is not and Ontario company as you tried to make it look? Sflecce

Update it to include how to pay taxes and other essential things

Should also add how rigged this World Cup was to the history curriculum

Ontario government reaches tentative deal with Ontario Council of Educational WorkersThe Ontario government has reached a tentative deal with school staff represented by the Ontario Council of Educational Workers. we don't need to see his face..... we've seen it enough for a lifetime Yep in which Steve did nothing but gaslight and lie…. This is good news. But Lecce needs to step up with regards to student safety. The woke school boards are prisoners of their own ideologies and are unwilling to improve student safety at the risk of being seen as inequitable. 🙄
