Education Minister Stephen Lecce says that a tentative agreement reached with CUPE over the weekend will provide the union’s lowest paid members with a “significant pay increase” that equals out to about 4.2 per cent annually.

eleventh-hour deal to avert a strikeCUPE members still have to ratify the agreement, a process which is expected to take until Sunday to complete.

CUPE has said that the tentative agreement provides a $1 flat rate hourly wage increase for all workers, which would equate to a 3.59 per cent annual increase when averaged out across its membership.told reporters on Sunday She said that it will ultimately be up to members to decide whether they are comfortable ratifying an agreement that does “fall short” in some areas.Lecce calls deal a ‘win, win, win’

Lecce told reporters on Monday that he believes the tentative agreement is “a win, win, win” for both CUPE members, parents and taxpayers.

Be happy with the cash raise

He likes to lie using bias made up statistics. Frankly a good math lesson for older kids. HOW COME YOU SAY NO to increase staffing support to save the sinking education system? Please resign Sflecce IStandWithCUPE

What is their starting rate..? Have you they change their contact end date to June or July.?

Maybe he should really stop lying and put some job security into place. Schools are dirty and still short staff , we need better pay! 55000 members are still going to fight you Mr Lecce! The bullshit that comes out of his mouth, great wages, benefits, pension, sicks days all lies

And they are still the lowest paid. No help from Lecce

He can’t do math!!!!

Ya until they strike again In years n ask for 25% yearly

yeah cause I want an extra 1.00 in my pocket that'll help with the rent and gas and food and energy and everything else...maybe it should be at least and extra 4.00 an hour.

So they are losing money after inflation. Good job

tHaT's NoT eNoUgH! fOrD iS tErRiBle! FckCUPE

I'm beginning to think he calls pressers just so he can pat himself on the back one more time for screwing kids over. He just doesn't word it quite that way.

4.2% of not enough is still not enough. All the new PAs got a nice $16K/yr boost though. fordnation's buddies got a $10-14B highway. 407 got $1B, $4.4B is still missing. He's throwing around super mayors as if we didn't just have an election The corruption is thick. Very thick.

Only when it falls on their lap do they get it can’t fix stupid.

So underestimated.

And what happens when a large group of them quit or walk away from public education? Such disrespect to these valuable contributors to education in Ontario.

I vote no !

More than the private sector gets!

They'll give mps 16k raises while trying to give health and education workers as little as possible. Cut politicians wages!

Look…if you think others have such better salary, then quit and find another job… don’t give me that “I don’t quit bc I care for kids” crap. If someone comes offer you 100K, you will quit right away!!! But you don’t quit bc you KNOW it’s not easy to find elsewhere

They legislated 1% for every other civil servant. Ontario has only increased public servants salary 8% in the past 12 years. 4 years at 0%, 8 years at 1% each.

I was fooled yesterday when a clown said yesterday he is one of the 55,000 members of CUPE & they can not afford to strike. Who paid him & who sent him to the TV crew & why they did not confirm his identity & association with CUPE? CTVNews CTVToronto

Plus remember 2 weeks off for a strike will cost you. It's better for everyone to take the deal.

Now we are talking...fare deal for all who work so hard to make sure future Ontarians are safe and well educated

Sflecce It is NOT a win, win! The gov't. should be ashamed. This gov't does not give what children need to learn. Both you & my child are educated in the Independent system. Tremendous difference between the public & this group of private schools. You should educate yourself!

Sflecce are you still here, move on and save us and yourself the headache.

Pay attention to LyingLecce ‘s code. Lowest paid might get 4.2% midrange get 2%, highest qualified get 1%. Inflation is the same for all of them. Keep cutting wages and see how poor you can make them. FailNation

What about the 11.7% they lost? What about the ~7% inflation this year? What about inflation over the next four years? 4% seems like a lot until it doesn’t touch inflation. The lowest paid workers get 4.2% what about the highest paid? Are they pooched again?

Not sure why CUPE is not celebrating in the streets? The average private sector worker may get 5% total over 4 years…

It's sad that $6 a day is a 4.6% raise

This deal sucks and I wouldn't blame the members if they turned it down.

That's nothing. It's still continuing the trend of below inflation raises, which still means we are experiencing an actual reduction in our ability to buy everything we need.

Recession?

Still making it about the money I see. What about reporting on everything else they’re asking for? More supports in the classroom etc

I vote NO!!

Should have cut their pay and called them what they are. Part Time Help.

Now cut the bloated administrator salaries to cover the cost so taxpayers don't lose more of their shirts.

Definite fudger of facts but more importantly, did the union concede to a two-tiered wage increase?

It doesn’t matter what he says, CUPE isn’t going to accept this. He tried to bully his way into a contract and it’s not going to work!

How is this dude not fired yet?

Get rid of union dues and take home net raise is even better!

I think Stephen needs to give it a rest already. We’ll see if they ratify.

I hope CUPEOntario does not ratify this deal.

If you don't like it go work somewhere else 🤷‍♀️

Did you get rid of seniority?

There might be worker ways of getting back at accepting a bad deal.

LyingLecce playing with numbers

Just cool your tits everyone, this “deal” still needs to be voted on by union members, sit back and buckle, Sflecce has no idea what is about to come his way…hopefully he didn’t pop the champagne yet amd shared with fordnation , or maybe they did that is why Doug was a no show

That’s already a lot compared to everyone else

His math changes every time he speaks. Remember, kids missed 11 years of school since 1989. 😂😂

Wow. Wasting tax dollars on janitors instead of EAs. Shameful

And you think that’s so generous for the lowest paid education workers. Not that we even trust your Math. And what was your wage increase again?! Oh yah, 16 600/yr! FireLecce

Nothing more for health & safety. That money is going into profitable projects like highways for developers. So basically Ford Gov doesn't feel our kids are all that important. Just a necessary expense to reduce at the kids risk. LecceFailedKids .fordnation

Sflecce 1800 new workers $250 million over 4 years. $200 bribe checks well over $400 million for 2 hours.. your math is amazing. CUPE fordnation another great example of wasting money!! Maybe we can use the gas tax money… nope another $200 bribe!!

Wow this is absurd. Is everyone else getting 4.2 too?

Im NOT this government’s biggest fan, but I feel like this is a decent offer. It could always be better, but this is not a bad deal. My opinion.

My education minister 🙌🏿🙌🏿🙌🏿 a fair deal was made

I didn't get any pay increase so CUPE should love this.

What were CUPE negotiators and govt doing btw Wed and Sunday? This is insulting. VoteNo is necessary, but CUPE, OSBCU, teacher union bargaining committees, all these union bureaucrats who SOLD the members OUT twice will cook up another rotten deal and call it a victory strike

I think 4.2% annually is a good offer. Not a lot of people in Canada gets this kind of increase. I support the right to strike again if members are not satisfied but this is a good offer in my opinion.

I like how this leach praises high end people and look down on the poor.

Not bad for part timers

4% raise is nothing with today's prices, so needs 2 jobs to survive.. when tax season come there goes your raise when the government take it back.

CUPE workers… do not ratify or accept this deal… vote no!!! You are under valued and your union does not have your backs! Wake up!

CUPE leader seems like working under the table with fordnation and took the garage deal for members to deal with - no one will oppose this crap deal when Christmas is around the corner and everyone needs money to spend

FireLecce

That is substantial based on the past years with many other government contracts.

Perhaps individual employee reviews can be conducted to assess weather or not this raise is even justified!!!!!!!

Get ready to pay Ontario

Lecce math again!

So just above the BOC interest rate

still not keeping up with inflation 🫠

Walton needs a vacation... such a bitter person. Well done, Lecce... called her bluff. Give Lecce a bonus!

DECE want 7 hours working time.

All of this stems from hike in minimum wages a few years back. All is trickle affect. Attack ability to live from the other side not wages.

Shameful

Its amazing how much time these education workers have to sit on social media all day replying to tweets.

Yes because it was actually all about raising the wages of the thousands of trades workers from 200k to 400k over 4 years. Was NEVER about the part timers making 39k a year.

Not 4.5

The deal is not ratified.

What percentage did the mpp’s get? So basically if you make more money you get more of a raise right? Is that how it works? We’re supposed to be soooo grateful for $1/hr/year while the rich get richer with their $16,000 raise… give me a break

It's still so low.

Hey AMAPCEO tell me again why the best we could get was 1%. I have to imagine that if after a week long strike - and not get briefing notes and speaking points etc. - that the gov't would have folded.

Are you sure Stephen? We sure were not just rolling our head on a keyboard to make up numbers again?

1 per cent annually for 4 year .OR 4 PER CENT ANNUALLY? WHICH ONE IS IT?

Before we rush to assumptions, let’s remember our education minister loves to play with numbers to fudge reality. I trust the union/workers way more than I trust this minister.
