The protester who tested positive for COVID-19 after Melbourne’s weekend rally did not have the COVIDSafe app, Deputy Chief Health Officer Dr Annaliese van Diemen has revealed. “It would have been useful certainly,” Dr van Diemen said.

“This is an infection that has an incubation period of anywhere between two to 14 days, so it could be even later than next week by the time that people incubate the infection and then become symptomatic and then get tested,” she said. Dr van Dieman and Health Minister Jenny Mikakos said the Victorian government’s official advice remained that protesters did not have to self-isolate for 14 days or get tested unless they showed symptoms.

Ms Mikakos said the “consistent advice” from the Australian Health Protection Principal Committee that advises the federal government was that protesters should self monitor, get tested and isolate if they display symptoms and or have been identified as a close contact.

Of course they didn’t have the app. They were selfish enough to march, they certainly were selfish enough not to have the app. bloodyidiot

Can we get a tax payer refund?

Sad to say that it all makes sense once you recognize that The Age is just a re-branded Sydney Morning Herald.

If the app worked, it would have been useful. I just found out mine had uninstalled itself as it hadn’t been used What?

annaliesevandieman. Maybe if they had called it the 1770 App he would have taken it up?

So those who attended the march he attended need to be avoided at all costs for a few weeks or longer?

It has just wasted everyone's effort to stop the spread. We have several indigenous people in our workplace, and I will refuse to attend this rally to protect them. This is my way of protest.

This should be known as the “Fuck Everyone Else” rally.

Did they also have an iPhone?

Are you not surprised?

This just keeps getting better and better.

What about the others who tested positive - did they have the app

Almost no-one has the app and it is uselessly ineffective. What is your point here? What about the other 8 infections in Victoria. Why no questions? is just a right-wing troll machine now! Shame on you!

Then round up the protesters, dump them in the MCG for two weeks, and you'll have a resident rent-a-crowd for AFL games...

This is pathetic, guys.

Still would not download app.

As there has been in cafes, grocery stores and street markets Why is this story being 're-published' on twitter (at least) daily? Of course it will be easy for the government to blame any spikes on BLM protests, rather than the nationwide relaxation of restrictions that occurred in the week prior. If there’s no spike then we can be assured that due to incubation periods while in lock down it’s been contained and time to go back to business. Lift restrictions
