More than 1000 students are expected at a protest against a move to replace semesters with a three-term academic year at the University of NSW

Students are demanding the University of New South Wales abandon its move to three academic terms per year, saying the new regime had left them stressed, overworked and out of sync with other universities.

More than 1000 students have said they will attend a protest later this month. Critics accuse the university of trying to save money by rushing students through and running courses all year."It's about getting more people in and out more quickly, which I don't think is a good thing," student Hersha Kodkol said. "Terms are much shorter than semesters, but there is a necessity to cover the same amount of content. It's a very stressful thing.

"If they reduce course workload to ease student stress, there is a possibility that students will graduate without the quality of educational experience they need to do well in the workforce," she said. However, there were teething problems, such as some students being given too much work. "We are looking to see whether we haven't been a bit enthusiastic about giving students more material and more assessments," he said.

Oh no! Uni is stressful! Drink a bag of concrete and harden the fuk up millennials.

You mean they are only going to get 4 months holiday per year? How stressful.

Welcome to the real world kids.

Stressful? No kids, these guys had a stressful experience. 🙄

Trimesters were introduced because ianjacobs is 3 raccoons in a trench-coat and he wanted to draw attention away from it

It should be ok if it is optional. I would have loved to finish my degree quicker and start making money

I will be so glad when it is no longer fashionable and ‘woke’ to wallow in so-called ‘stress’ and perpetual victimhood. Suck it up, snowflakes.

This isn't an uncommon format. Other top universities have mixed semester/trimester formats to allow for different exam periods and subjects to be taught effectively. Some even teach 7week subjects for postgraduate!

UNSW hits out at govt's beefed-up secrecy laws | Sky News AustraliaUniversity of NSW professor George Williams has hit out at Australia’s secrecy and counterterrorism laws, describing them to Sky News as “hyper-legislation” that goes much further than other countries with a greater terror threat. \n\n“Other countries often look on Australia as being quite remarkable when it comes to the laws we’ve passed since September 11 2001,” Professor Williams said. \n\n“Firstly it's just the number of laws - it’s actually up to 82 counter-terrorism laws passed by our national parliament.\n\n“That's been referred to as hyper-legislation - something you don’t even find in the United States.”\n\nThe UNSW professor added how the Australian Security Intelligence Organisation has the power to detain “non-suspects” for “up to a week” and can “force [them] to answer questions.”\n\n“Many of our laws go further than what you see in those other countries, like the power of ASIO to have people detained.\n\n“That’s not even something you even find in a country like Israel.”\n\nThe UNSW professor’s comments come after the Australian Government was lambasted by the national media for fostering a culture of secrecy. \n If journalists used their brains when reporting there would be no need for all these secrecy acts. Report the news don’t try and be the news. If they find something suspicious report it to the authorities !!!
