'Very stressful': students rebel after UNSW moves from two to three academic terms per year

Students are demanding the University of New South Wales abandon its move to three academic terms per year, saying the new regime had left them stressed, overworked and out of sync with other universities.

More than 1000 students have said they will attend a protest later this month. Critics accuse the university of trying to save money by rushing students through and running courses all year."It's about getting more people in and out more quickly, which I don't think is a good thing," student Hersha Kodkol said. "Terms are much shorter than semesters, but there is a necessity to cover the same amount of content. It's a very stressful thing.

"If they reduce course workload to ease student stress, there is a possibility that students will graduate without the quality of educational experience they need to do well in the workforce," she said. However, there were teething problems, such as some students being given too much work. "We are looking to see whether we haven't been a bit enthusiastic about giving students more material and more assessments," he said.

They sure have enough time to protest any conservative commentators and blocking them on campus amongst their stressful time table.

First world problem - why is this front page news?

Those 4 contact hours per week are very stressful

Do they still do 15 hr weeks like I did way back when?

Courses will be shorter. In that case , more students will be pushed through, hence more revenue.

Interesting! Can we cut short degree times?

the change to three terms from two semesters is all about money. UNSW shuffled students through quicker increasing their bottom line - education in this country is going backwards - foreign students will stop coming here and we will be left with a second rate education system

Lots of other universities have 3 semesters, the 3rd is optional.

'Too clever for jail' student quits Oxford UniversityA young woman who was dubbed “too clever for prison” by the UK media after she was spared jail by a sympathetic judge has quit her Oxford University degree. 9News “White college students from good background family spared from jail”. Reminded me of that college swimmer from the US who raped a girl behind a dumpster and only got 3 months because it’s a “shame” for the criminal to go to jail. Where was the sympathy for the victims? Such a shame, that she is burdened by such mental health issues, and that she is succumbing to them at the detriment of the contribution her intelligence could have made towards medicine! If it was a guy, im sure the same would happened...... ..... ..... welcome to equality everyone
