Stellenbosch University's Wilgenhof alumni welcome council decision for public input on closure

A report into Wilgenhof mentioned that the two rooms and its contents were made known in the media on 27 January when unauthorised photos were published on News24.

An association representing past and current students of Stellenbosch University's Wilgenhof residence has welcomed the council's decision to hold further consultations over the proposed closure of the controversial men's hostel. In a communiqué to the university community on Tuesday, the council said it had met on Monday to extensively debate Vice-Chancellor Wim de Villiers' recommendation - which was unanimously supported by the rectorate - that the residence in its current form should be closed on the basis of the recommendation of a panel that investigated the contents of two rooms.South Africans need to be in the know if we want to create a prosperous future.
