Stellenbosch University alumni cast decisive vote for pro-Afrikaans leadership of convocation committee

A self-identified pro-Afrikaans group has made a clean sweep of the elections for posts on the executive committee of the convocation at Stellenbosch University after winning all five seats.

Theo de Jager, who was found guilty on two counts of fraud in the Pretoria Magistrate's Court in February 1999, clinched 3 007 votes for the post of president, while Riaan de Villiers, who was nominated by the opposing SUNewConvoRise movement, garnered only 730 votes. A similar picture emerged for the election of vice-president, where Johan Smit received 3 021 votes, while Lwazi Phakade, from the SUNewConvoRise camp, only managed to secure 762.South Africans need to be in the know if we want to create a prosperous future.
