A nominee standing for election to the executive committee of the convocation of Stellenbosch University is calling on a fellow candidate to disclose his past criminal conviction for fraud to voters.
Lwazi Phakade's call comes after he was made aware by some concerned members of the convocation that Theo de Jager, who is contesting for president of the convocation, was found guilty on two counts of fraud in the Pretoria Magistrate's Court in February 1999. On the first charge, De Jager, who was the chairperson of a non-profit community radio station, was fined R10 000 after being found guilty of defrauding his former business partner, Andries du Preez, of R40 000.South Africans need to be in the know if we want to create a prosperous future.
