IBB Varsity Presents Research Results On Bida Oil Exploration

to explore inland Hydrocarbon deposit, Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University, Lapai ,Niger Stateresearch on frontier basins exploration for further action .

The University’s Director of Research and Innovations, Professor Nuhu Obaje, said at the weekend that the researchSokoto Basins, and the Benue Trough could be made available to NNPC for further action. Prof Obaje said during an in-house appraisal of research activities carried out by the University in the last five years under the leadership of the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Muhammad Nasir Maiturare, thatwas premised on the supports the University received from the corporation for the researches.

He stated that the University received support especially on its research activities in the Bida and Sokoto Basins which enabled detailed geological mapping of the two basins as well as exposition of the potential source rocks for oil and gas generation in the basins. The director said he is aware that the NNPC is following up on the leads provided by the research through further acquisition of seismic and other data by the NNPC itself, and that the University’s research centre is working on identifying the most prospective areas in the Benue Trough and Dahomey Basin as well.According to him, the Lower Benue covers most parts of South EastTaraba states.
