SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT Summary Sex Education's run is already finished and there's a significant amount of time that its events covered from its first to its last year. Despite its popularity, Netflix finally wrapped up the acclaimed British coming-of-age project with season 4. In its final year, Sex Education addressed most of its biggest lingering plot lines, answering many mysteries and giving its primary characters their respective endings.
Despite technically being an ensemble show, focusing on the students and faculty at Moordale Secondary, Sex Education had three main characters — Otis Milburn, Eric Effiong, and Maeve Wiley. The Sex Education season 4 finale gave all three of them satisfying send-offs, with their fates impressively connecting to their origins in the series.
Sex Education Is Set In The Late 2010s When Sex Education debuted, there was confusion as to when the show was set. Because it didn't reference real-life events, there were no markers on what decade it takes place in. That being said, the series' overall aesthetic had many convinced that it was a period show set in the '80s. That was corroborated by the cast's colorful wardrobe and its nostalgic soundtrack.
2 Years Pass Between Sex Education Seasons 1 & 4 Breaking down the Sex Education timeline, its events happened in approximately two years. The series' pilot took place during the first day of classes, with season 2 taking over the whole spring term. There was a time jump between seasons 2 and three, which was set during the summer break, as it was when Ruby and Otis first started seeing each other.
Since Sex Education season 3 ended with the abrupt closure of Moordale Secondary, the students had to find other schooling alternatives to finish their school year. Show creator Laurie Nunn confirmed that a few months passed between season 4 and its predecessor, which allowed the show to skip dealing with the ramifications of Moordale Secondary being sold in the season 3 finale.
