To show how Texas school campuses have performed year to year, the Houston Chronicle created a database that standardizes the ratings data from TEA since 2014 into simpler “pass” and “fail” categories.

because of"chronically low achievement,” attention has been fixed on the agency's school rating system. To show how each school in Texas has performed year to year, the Houston Chronicle has created this database that standardizes the ratings data from TEA since 2014 into simpler “pass” and “fail” categories.

The A-F system, paused during the 2020 and 2021 school years amid the pandemic, was reinstated for the 2022 school year after was signed into law in September 2021. The system is used by TEA to evaluate school performance based on a range of factors, including student achievement. How does your school district or charter campus compare to HISD? The answer might surprise you

The bar for state intervention is relatively low: SB 1365 gives the education commissioner the power to appoint an outside board of managers for a school district if a single school has five consecutive years of unacceptable performance. But the way the state calculates whether a school meets that five-year threshold – including rules about what scores do and do not count – can obscure how campuses are actually performing from year to year, critics say.

For example, under SB 1365, in years where a campus is not given a rating by TEA – such as during the pandemic and in 2018 when Houston schools were exempt from ratings post-Hurricane Harvey – that year does not constitute a break in a streak of unacceptable ratings.

More anger, frustrations from HISD parents at second TEA public meeting on Houston ISD takeoverHeated exchanges and confusion continue as the Texas Education Agency hosts public meetings on the takeover process. Thank you Dr. LiraSerg for speaking Truth! Tx Ed Agency is disrespecting the community. I was there and PROUD to witness the community reclaim their voice. This is just a preview of how TEA will attempt to disempower us. Not today. Not tonight. Not ever. HISD txlege txed I’m surprised they don’t have a fleet of trucks driving slowly around Town announcing the takeover on repeat! So parents are proud that their kids can’t read? That their kids are t safe? They support the failing schools? Obviously this is why they need to be taken over. Too many local people don’t care. It’s all about politics and virtue signaling.
