If a student presents as an issue to others, that student needs to be separated and constrained. Most schools have rooms for that purpose. I had a 5 year old stab a student repeatedly in Ontario. It happens and safety of everyone is priority.
The cells are in other schools. When my son attended Balmoral Drive Sr Public School in Brampton the school had at least 4-5 cells that were filled daily. No access to school materials, no bathroom breaks etc; and parents would not be informed. If I was, I would bring him home

When I was growing up a boy in my class always was sent to a room. He acted up for years in elementary. We named it after him cos he was in it so much. We send our kids to school to learn, not to be locked up. If the teacher can't handle it, they shouldn't be there. Period.

So as an EA in both Catholic and public school boards, there are many schools with rooms for distractions and behaviours. Often it’s a safe place where the child can express their frustrations etc without disrupting the entire class. Is this the standard here? Or something else?

When I was a kid in Toronto, some kids (any race) were put into a separate room when the teacher ran out of ways to stop the kid from totally disrupting the class + some kids were given a separate room because they had some kind of neurodivergence & needed a quiet space for tasks

I was locked in a broom closet by my teacher when I was a child and have had claustrophobia ever since. The same happened to my daughter when she was in grade school. This is part of a bigger issue. Solitary confinement is not effective and does more harm than good.
