The USDA unveiled new nutrition standards for school meals that would limit sugar and sodium.

If implemented, the new standards would limit sugar and sodium intake while increasing the amount of whole grains in meals eaten by more than 30 million students each day during the school year. "We're proposing these changes now to build in plenty of time for planning and collaboration with all of our school nutrition partners," said Stacy Dean, deputy undersecretary for Food, Nutrition and Consumer Services in a statement."Implementing the final school nutrition standards will require the support of schools and state agencies."

They should get rid of fried food too. Especially “chicken nuggets”, which are basically just a wad of blended chicken parts drenched in saturated fat.

If the food does not taste good, the kids will dump it out. I once asked a child, why he took the food, when he was just going to throw it out. He replied, 'Because it's free. Tell me, what have we taught him and others?

The effort to provide kids with better, more nutritious food is great. However, this will just make it more likely for kids to throw away and waste food. Current school food is already tasteless, so why not come up with something nutritious AND delicious to prevent this?

Finally some good actions!

Looks like lots of folks replying can’t even remember as far back as 2014..

Still not good enough

More poisoned for our children. How about some steak? Children need protein not seed oil processed food.

Why? They won't eat it and it will lead to more food waste

You mean: thrown away by 28 million students each day.

School lunch standards are written by big corporations that push poison to kids 100% enabled by politicians who get a cut

Ok…so what’s the increase? They’re gonna have to get a part time job to pay for these fancy lunches…maybe they could use their internal organs in trade like the prisoners in Massachusetts! Depending on zip code OF COURSE.

I have no issue with the nutrition, but the economically disadvantaged schools contract out and the selection is such crap, the kids aren’t eating half of anything offered.

You really can reduce sugar quite easily without impacting flavor. Salt is tough

40 years too late.

So Fox will report this as woke and start promoting Type II Diabetes and strokes as god given rights.

Oh what yummy cardboard.

Will they still have to pay for these meals or are we going to feed the children each and every day?

Take out all high fructose syrup in all foods! That’s is what causes diseases!

Sugar yes processed salt yes. But pink Himalayan salt should be substituted.

The USDA needs to visit schools across the country and actually eat the food they are asking children to eat. It is horrendous! States need to start fully funding schools so the cafeteria can actually COOK!

Oh great we can feed our kids more processed grains

Great news! Now make the school meals free to all school age kids in this country.

Holy L bro i just want some good food 😭

Republican state legislatures will now pass laws requiring foods to have more sugar and sodium.

Dairy lobbyists, anti-fat hysteria, and the old food pyramid partying like it’s 2002!

THIS IS COMMUNISM!! Am I doing that right?

What took so long?

Proposal included “Allowing people who were formerly incarcerated or in college to receive food stamps.” What does that have to do with school lunches? Dems add stuff like this in bills knowing the majority of the time GOP will vote against it & Dems can start their fake outrage.

Conservatives: YOU WILL PRY MY KID'S PIZZA AND FRIES FROM THEIR COLD DEAD HANDS

Moo-ve over USDA... Rs want to put a federal law in place that REQUIRES all schools to offer chocolate milk. So much for limiting sugar.

More meat and fruit. Less plant defense chemicals and refined sugars

School lunches should be free for all students.

Oh boy, that's going to trigger Hannity and Tucker. Now they'll be crying about the woke lunch ladies! DeSantos will be targeting them when he's done with the teachers and librarians.

Translation: the fda thinks kids will eat food that tastes like crap.

Here comes the Sugar Lobby ready to throw $$$ at any politician that will listen.

Good news👍🏽

but ketchup is a vegetable

Great news. Whole grains are essential.

I don’t feel like nutritional standards are the problem so much as poor funding. FEED THESE KIDS
