Schools would be required to gradually limit the amount of sugar and salt in meals served to students, the Agriculture Department said, as part of proposed new school nutrition guidelines

WASHINGTON—Schools would be required to gradually limit the amount of sugar and salt in meals served to students, the Agriculture Department said Friday as part of proposed new school nutrition guidelines.

In addition to the limits on added sugars and sodium, schools also would be required to emphasize serving products made with whole grains, over a multiyear transition period, the USDA said. Flavored milk, such as chocolate milk, would be allowed in certain circumstances.

But plenty of corn syrup and carbs

We keep changing the guidelines and we keep getting fatter

Why isn’t this pizza a rectangle?

So they’ll get cardboard then.

still have long ways to go as far as feeding school students healthy lunch

Considering their track record, why is the Agricultural Department even allowed to create such guidelines? They just promote agriculture. They have no business dictating who eats what.

Alls I knows is pizza is a vegetable

It is great to see continued improvement of nutrition in our schools, but I think a dedication to teaching students about Nutrition is just as crucial.

Finally

Let's make cafeteria food even less desirable for children!!! Excellent idea

more steak.

Diabetes dislikes this

So instead of the kids eating it, it’ll end up in the garbage. Remember Michelle Obama’s plan?

New rules would limit sugar in school meals for first timeBREAKING: Federal agriculture officials have proposed new nutrition standards for school meals, including the first limits on added sugars. The plan would also dramatically cut sodium in meals served to the nation's schoolkids by 2029. Imagine being in a U.S. school concerned over the federal government doing nothing to stop mass shootings and all the best they can do is take pizza off the lunch menu. Your freakin' Country helped free Europe and defeat the Japanese in WW 2 in way less time then that! Decades behind anything approaching responsible.

Ohio Gov. DeWine wants to help schools pay for school resource officersHis first stop is Lakewood High School, where he is announcing his plan to assist schools with the cost of staffing school resource officers. So I have to wonder. Cleveland schools have a policy where contractors and visitors must stand facing the walls when students are present, will they be enforcing that with the governor? Supposedly, it’s so the students aren’t intimidated or feel threatened. Sad days when schools have had to employ resource officers. And metal detectors for that matter. Parents need to take a hard look in the mirror.
