Before the vote, student trustee Isaiah Shafqat, who is Two-Spirit Mi'kmaq and Loon clan, urged trustees to support the motion as it will send a message of solidarity and a message that Indigenous perspectives matter.
A number of trustees also spoke in support of the motion, saying it is a critical step and opportunity of enrichment for students. While the course focuses on contemporary First Nations, Métis and Inuit voices instead of European writers, it is still designed to prepare students for the compulsory Grade 12 English course.
Wow sad that Canada seems to be accommodating everyone but the white man like me and my family. Shame.

Get real. This is getting more ridiculous by the minute.
Why would they do that? They should take a look at the demographics of their student bodies. There are more Asians, Blacks and Whites in Toronto schools than the are indigenous people. I can support a more diverse curriculum but it should reflect the student body as a whole.
Virtue signalling for what exactly?

Just make it an elective
