I think the message here is we can no longer place trust in aspirational or perhaps, at times, deluded students. Unconditional offers are rare. Removing them makes little difference to the student intake.

Good. Excessive Unconditional offers cause so many problems x

Surely unconditional offers should be illegal?

Good. As a teacher trying to motivate students to do well at A level, 'unconditionals' are a disaster!😈😬😊

Universities give out unconditional offers to fill places and nothing more.

Statistically how many of these 'unconditional offer' students actually attained a good degree? University is a very different environment to high school which may inspire students to achieve their full potential.

These unconditional offers make a mockery of our university systemJudith Woods: These unconditional offers make a mockery of our university system Meritocracy replaced by 'Are they one of us?' Sounds a bit like the Conservatives and UKLabour candidate selection processes. Any degree which gives unconditional offers on a regular basis, to people who haven't even finished sitting A-levels or equivalent, is worthless. Get rid of Mickey Mouse degrees such as 'gender studies' and focus instead on sciences or other useful degrees that come with employability

Britain’s university offers system is unfit for purpose and needs replacing | Graeme AthertonIf universities based offers on actual – not predicted – grades, disadvantaged students would get the break they deserve, says Graeme Atherton, director of the National Education Opportunities Network From the UK, about the decision of at what university to study: '...[a new] system would recognise that decision-making regarding university entry begins far earlier than age 17 or 18 for young people, and it would provide information, advice and guidance from age 15 onwards.' Got to love the 'g' full of so called experts who know all the answers to the world . This article is so badly written... And no point do you actually explain how the current system works and why that is a problem. You sort of assume it's a problem and you're trying to convince everyone of that.
