The discovery comes less than a month after the “unthinkable” discovery of the remains of 215 Indigenous children — some as young as three years old — in unmarked graves near the Kamloops Indian Residential School outside Kamloops, B.C.

“Many students who went to residential school never returned. They were lost to their families. They died at rates that were far higher than those experienced by the general school-aged population. Their parents were often uninformed of their sickness and death. They were buried away from their families in long-neglected graves,” reads the 2015 TRC report.
For example, reports dating back to 1919 note that authorities expected school staff to “physically dominate students” and that an Indian Agent refused to transfer a student to another school because he feared that “the other boys may form the opinion that the Brother [in charge of discipline at Cowessess] is afraid of the big boys.”

Fact is thousands of indigenous died from smallpox, measles, tuberculosis and many other European diseases against which they had no immunity. No evidence they were murdered, despite the press innuendos. Children are also dying on reserves today and what are we doing about it?
Prior to 1930s there were no antibiotics to fight pneumonia or TB. Death rates among chikdren everywhere were high. Prior to 1920 no vehicles or refrigerstion to transport or store bodies long so people everywhere were buried asap if they died. My family had a graveyard…

Not a single body has been found. Your story does not indicate any body has been found, the First Nation itself hasn’t said bodies have been found. Adjust your headline.

This will be repeated across Canada. TRC already stated that up to 4100 children died while attending residential schools over a period of 120 years. Most from epidemic diseases compounded by crowded living conditions, malnutrition & maltreatment.

Take a breath before the accusations fly. Who are in the graves and how did they die? Children who died of disease or who were murdered? It’s a huge difference. Yes the residential schools were wrong but context and facts on these graves matters.

Yes. Tragic. And...? Unmarked graves are everywhere non-parental adults -- especially 'religious' orders, and ESPECIALLY Catholics -- have unsupervised custodial access to children. Worldwide, and throughout history. The pearl clutching around this is performative, not genuine.
