The NSW government will commit $196 million to develop a new school syllabus, and that will include money for an online system that will allow teachers - as well as parents and students - to find what they need in seconds

The aim is a syllabus that serves teachers, rather than the other way around. It will let them call up exactly what they need across multiple subjects, as well as provide resources such as sample assessments, advice on lesson planning, and examples of different standards of student work.

“The update is overdue as teachers are currently having to access syllabus information in unsophisticated and time-intensive ways.” Unlike previous curriculums, the new one - to be introduced over the next few years, beginning with kindergarten to year 2 next year - will include evidence-based teaching advice.

All the gadgetry in the world won’t help unless you have a workable student teacher ratio, dependant on the needs of the class. From memory my poor teachers spent the first & last 10 minutes of a 40 minute class bringing us under control & another 10 min dealing with idiots.

Let's hope the new syllabus includes lessons about gender reassignment surgery.

I’m not sure this is about “education”. Sounds like “information” only. There’s a difference

Plan to end the 9am to 3pm school day in NSWIn a radical move from traditional school hours, the NSW government will encourage principals to work with parents and students to find innovative ways to provide flexibility for families. Should Victoria try ditching the 9am-3pm school day too? Thinking about the drop off and pickup times if multiple children in a family. We tried to extend the school hours (to give flexibility) but couldn’t because of bus time tables. Should have gone down the Finland track years ago - by neither governments nor the plebs are open-minded enough.
