Children are more likely to be involved in a car accident or catch flu than coronavirus, the deputy chief medical officer Jenny Harries has said

Anyone who has come into close contact with a student who tests positive for coronavirus will have to self-isolate, Nick Gibb has said.

It’s quite staggering that schools remained closed to the majority of students for almost 6 months after foreign travel resumed and pubs/restaurants re-opened months ago. The long term impact to so many children, particularly those with additional needs will be huge!

Uh yeah. Hellooooo! we've been telling you, you dont listen, that's why you are legacy media!

truth plays no part in any agenda

Thats it, shut down the roads, ban a cars and trucks. Close the lot.

AlistairHaimes At last. The fog of fear clears and the facts emerge.

They will also be more at risk of losing a parent or grandparent by going to school.

Wrong as proved by events in Scotland and Berlin.

Nothing new here. We've known this for months. Pretty much true of the whole population to be fair. Deaths in single figures for most of August.

Wait until you hear Ireland’s Minister for Health donnellystephen has to say about risks of CoronaVirus - sad ignorant compliant Irish but hey we’re great Craic Trampolines more risky than COVID19Ireland inherently

Experts.. with no or contrary empirical data.

And for adults too.

Lies lies lies

I for one feel that Jenny Harries has lost all credibility and no longer believe a single word she says. She is a talking head that the government wheel out to try and give their policies some authority, and through allowing this, she has lost has own authority.

So where is the proof ?

DonnellyStephen craic Blocker? So now we all know what papers you read!!! 😂😂😂😂😂 inherentlyriskythingtodo trampolines cars sports 🏌️‍♂️⛳️

Stop listening to the Fakenews Media about a disease where 88% of those impacted by this disease are in age range that puts them out of the workforce. A disease with little/no impact on 99.04% - Stop sacrificing the Young & Healthy for the old and sick. - Ignore Fear Merchants

Same person who said 'large crowds don't make an impact, when asked about Liverpool vs Atletico Madrid?'

Really? Care to re-think that statement?

That has never been the point! Children can carry and spread it.

And what about teachers, cleaners, dinner ladies, teaching assistants etc? Children can spread the virus and there already examples in other countries where this has happened. I sincerely hope Harries is right but this sounds like. A rather glib statement.

Which age group? Teens spread as well as adults, science is unclear on primary aged children, but they carry every other virus home to their parents. Even if children are kept separate from grandparents, millions of adults with children have a caring role for the elderly.

But a child involved in an accident on way to school would not result in an exponentially rising number of other children being involved in accidents on their way to school Jenny Harries . More politics than logic

Why increase fines for non mask wearing if it's safe for pupils who spread Covid-19 like adults to be together in enclosed classrooms in Sept. - but Parliament won't until 30th Oct due to safety concerns? One rule for MP's & another for we plebs? Am I missing Govt's consistency?

Oh good, we are back to the same reassurances we had BEFORE when they delayed closing the schools and thousands of people died. I hope history won't repeat itself, but based on this governments track record it doesn't bode well.

Mmm...she also said quite a bit about masks before they too became a political bargaining tool.

They are capable of passing it to older and vulnerable staff, especially secondary and college age students. Staff with 180 students per day (6 lessons a day with 30+ kids in each), plus other staff in staff room/toilets! MASKS needed to stop the spread!!!

It’s not about children though is it?

d_mos77 Could have told you this months ago but you were too busy selling the fear bullshit 🤦🏻‍♀️

The government is refusing to even say anything about the spread of the disease. They are only saying kids won’t catch it: it only takes one Typhoid Mary to cause an outbreak.

It's fair to say people are more skeptical of Jenny Harries these days.

Given that road accidents account for the highest number of child deaths, I do not find that very reassuring

Jenny Harries has said a lot of things over the last 8 months. The woman should have been launched after Cheltenham.

That medical officer should google 'exponential growth'

how about their teachers and the school staff?

The thing is we can't believe anything our medical 'experts' say as they're just not consistent!

So why masks for children?

UK under BorisHasFailedTheUK is a big car crash? Wasnt JennieHarries thar advisor who was ok with mass gatherings during start of Covid? Oops COVIDIOTS

Everyone is more likely to be involved in a car crash or catch flu than COVID19!!!!!!

Adults can't catch car crashes from them. How many adults catch flu from schoolchildren?

RitaPanahi yes but if your kid is in a car accident with another kid who then goes & has a car accident with my grandma then YOU KILLED MY GRANDMA

RitaPanahi We must shut down motoring until we have solved this problem of car accidents. We could save hundreds, maybe thousands, of lives every year.

Will SAGE voice household mitigation strategies (advice), where those households are multi-generational? My household includes me (pushing 50), an 11 year old & a 90 year old. I've no idea what I'm supposed to say to the 90 yr old in September except 'sorry'? CMO_England

What evidence is her assertion based on? What are the risks for staff?

if you have a car crash you don’t cause 2 or 3 people you’ve been in contact with to also have a crash a few days later

Read reports of outbreaks in other countries - I am following science.

Great. Now I guess we have to ban cars and winter.

Is that the same Jenny Harries who said the UK was an 'international exemplar in preparedness' for the coronavirus crisis?

Coronavirus: Risk of flu or road accident higher than COVID-19 for schoolchildren, says deputy CMODr Jenny Harries says a well-controlled school environment with the knowledge there now is about COVID-19 'should be a safe one'. This is also true for the working age public... does that mean we can fully reopen the economy? Chicken Pox, tummy bugs or seasonal flu in schools- spread extremely quickly. All adults (teachers, cleaners, dinner folk, assistants, clerical staff etc) are also at risk. Isn't Covid 19 the same? Tell the truth! Children will probably recover quickly but the adults may not! Stop with the relentless propaganda!
