Dr Jenny Harries says a well-controlled school environment with the knowledge there now is about COVID-19 'should be a safe one'.

"We also know that children very rarely get serious disease and get hospitalised, and when children do get infection it is usually very mild and sometimes asymptomatic. How many have died or tested positive where you live - and where the latest hotspots are

Professor Whitty acknowledged that children will undoubtedly bring households together who wouldn't come into contact if schools were closed - which will"put pressure" on the R number.

Should tell the school in Scotland this I am sure they would appreciate it

I don't deliberately get in to 5 accidents a week, though.

That's a classic case of answering the wrong question. The risk I want assessed is the risk of children TRANSMITTING the virus to vulnerable relatives in their household after picking it up in school - and the risk to adult workers in schools. Stop misleading the public.

Really?

Why increase fines for non mask wearing if it's safe for pupils who spread Covid-19 like adults to be together in enclosed classrooms in Sept. - but Parliament won't until 30th Oct due to safety concerns? One rule for MP's & another for we plebs? Am I missing Govt's consistency?

Oh cool that's fine then no problem

So why did we close schools and stop exams?

FFS! It is more about them being super-spreaders than they themselves becoming ill! The irresponsibility of this “doctor” and you who published this pile of refuse, is astonishing

And for adults, you have more chance of being struck by lightening than dying from Covid 19.

And for school staff I don't suppose he wishes to comment on this. Probably doesn't fit the political remit. Doesn't he also have a duty of care to school staff? What about the children they pass the virus onto? Staff need masks. Schools could be safer for all.

Teachers, TA's etc told don't wear masks, no ppe. Many have been shielding and now thrown in. Staggered start, finish times. How do parents sort that out with work. Hard enough as it was

Someone tell me where else in the country has there been a safe mass group of people inside a building WITHOUT masks? Cinemas need masks to be worn. Schools should open on a rota with masks needing to be worn otherwise this is fuelforasecondwave 🤦🏻‍♂️

My chances of getting smashed by train lessen the further I am from tracks ..same applies for this NOVEL virus

Accept it’s relatively safe for kids, that we get, but the question everyone wants to know is what is the risk factor for teachers, support staff and parents? That’s the issue here

On mainstream media channel in France. This professor calling out the bullshit. Great stuff!

Another report that excludes vulnerable parents and teachers. Whats wrong with you journalists? Why are you only reporting half the story? Parents_Utd schoolsreopeninguk ToryShambles

Can’t trust these government puppets

Stop with the relentless propaganda!

Speaking of road accidents, I see kids under 16 travelling free on buses have been scrapped, hardly a move for the youth of Britain is it, that’s how they get to school that you value so dearly apparently.

As literally loads of us have been saying for ages ...

This is also true for the working age public... does that mean we can fully reopen the economy?

Chicken Pox, tummy bugs or seasonal flu in schools- spread extremely quickly. All adults (teachers, cleaners, dinner folk, assistants, clerical staff etc) are also at risk. Isn't Covid 19 the same? Tell the truth! Children will probably recover quickly but the adults may not!
