University hopefuls say they feel 'let down' and will still struggle to find places - even after their grades are bumped up

'Not that much has changed'doesn't feel much better about the government's decision, because"not that much has changed".

Emily says she's not found much comfort in the idea of being awarded her predicted grades."I'll always know that I was given a U. And I know that I didn't deserve that grade," she says. Although she is now likely to get her first choice of university after all, Zainab says the past week has been an"awful" and"confusing" experience."I felt like I've been really let down. Now [after the U-turn] it's a bit different, but I still feel a bit let down after all of that. It was really, really stressful."is working a shift at B&Q near his home in Willsbridge, Bristol.

And after Uni McDonalds will be hiring a lot of them, because most of their degrees won’t be worth shit.

BBCPolitics Theyve been done over So have next years cohort as there wil be pressure on Givt capped places God this Govt are thick

Let's up the marks then blimey wat next

Parents, what have you done wrong to bring up such brats? 🤷‍♀️

It's a tuff old life eh! Good grades and didn't even have to sit an exam.

if the kids went to schools where this year's results are out of line with the years before and after then their bits of paper won't be worth anything. employers know the schools and will simply devalue the grade

Get over it

A good lesson learned then. Life bloody sucks get over it.

The gov is eliminating the effort of a whole gen of little business unit, and so eliminating a gen of student, also.

Poor little lambs. Maybe mummy and daddy could wrap them in a cotton wool blanket?

So they get what they want and still winge, this me me me generation are outstanding. They just cant lose gracefully it has to be someone elses fault.

Btecs and vocational quals not included. Thousands have sat these. One grade drop at btec is equivalent of 2 at A level. Students still distressed and missing ucas points. Not sure Govt know what a btec is.

Fgs....moan, moan ,moan.....life could be so much worse!!!

The Galaxy brains in number 10 are hopeless.

Their grades are not ‘bumped up’. They have been given the predicted grades of their teschers. Please deploy your language correctly.

Government should be sued for millions.

My timeline is full of young people celebrating their revised results and our top universities making sensible and humane statements.

It's all OK now, you can all pop along to uni and have your 3 years of piss ups and shagging. And when you've finished, McDonald's will hopefully pushing a recruitment drive for burger flippers.

For those who don't want to become Uni lefty Fodder, should be given the opportunity of Time in the Army learning manual skills, Plastering Carpentry Mechanics ect.. On average they would lead a more constructive balanced productive life than 90% of those who attend University

BBCPolitics They can learn a trade and do something practical. University is a waste of time for at least 50% of those going there. It’s a con to massage unemployment figures, make money for universities and of course saddle young people with debt (lining the pockets of money lenders).

Please stop falling for the marketing of the Russell Group - they don't represent *all* 'leading universities'.

Fuck em

Never happy. Sense of entitlement breathtaking. I feel sorry for any Jewish kids taught by Momentum’s ‘BRENDA JC4PM🌹YNWA’.

BBCPolitics How cool is it the government doing a u term remember when tories were lead by thatcher who said this women is not for turning well government listened to the people takes big man to know he’s wrong and change it labour would never listen that’s the difference we’ll done tories

Did they all want A* and to go to their first choice Uni? Well boo frigging hoo. Suck it up snowflakes. Life doesn't get easier.

This was no accident. This whole u-turn was part of the plan for the rich and connected to secure their places at universities without any competition.

This might come as a surprise, but in the world of real work there is such a thing as being over-qualified.

If the students really want to prove they were going to get their predicted grades, they should sit the exams ASAP. Like benifit scroungers, they've got something for nothing. Every year before has had to sit exams, some a year later if missed through ill health.

Young adults struggling to act like young adults.

Why not just give everyone A’s and be done with it. Education is only 3% of employment choice for most employers.

NOT BUMPED UP. Reverted to true result

Oh ffs just give them a fricking degree now. They are entitled to it after all. Its freebie qualification season .

Poor dears, I wonder how the other 70% of school leavers who don’t go to University to study Knitting will manage & cope

I’m sorry but this is a weak piece of reporting. There is a good, worthy story here but this was rushed out & half cocked. Its been a couple of hours since the U turn, they don’t know whether their situation has changed yet. Daily Mailesque

These young people are sadly mistaken if they think this trivial issue in the grand scheme of things is going to be the only challenge they will face in life, what an entitled generation we have created!! DefundTheBBC scumedia

BBCPolitics Thousands are dead, millions face unemployment, hundreds of thousands face eviction and homelessness, but forget all that. Some kids uni application has been impacted. You could just have sat the exam. Brats.

Forget University. Don't waste your time. Massive fraud.

Give them all A's as it just devalues them even more

Let's just give em all a degree.

Never satisfied..

This is your first lesson in the real world, get used to it.

No they wont. There are.lots of spaces there are not gonna be the numbers of internationals this year the unis will be desperate to fill places. The media are talking this up way out of proportion

Absolute state of the miserable old gammons in this thread, pouring literal hatred onto a bunch of kids who worked hard and got screwed by the government. Is there no depths they won't plunge, no target off limits as they white knight for their Brexit heroes? Sad little people

Shambles

Don't worry kids, you've sacrificed your future for a handful of 80 year olds...

Stop fucking moaning.

BBCPolitics I’ll just leave this here.

There you have the real reason tbey downgraded results !

They will learn to get a bump in Grades without knowledge or wisdom has devastating effects in their future. Life lessons are brutal.

BBCPolitics moan moan moan

Teachers are they right to make A-level scores, I don’t think so. They are human beings like and dislike, always unfair. Students target is A-level scores but some teachers doesn’t care, that is real world. Please Be Fair for all students 😡

Mixed reactions being generated from Uni prospects. If harping on teachers' based assessment is anything to go by in a bid to prevent destinies from being shattered, how about the government getting all of the predicted grades cancelled to entrench free level playing admissions?

Will universities be empty?

No win - media jumps on downgrade of results sympathising with students. Results are reversed & media jumps on problems universities might have taking extra students or how students may still not get places.

Snowflakes will continue to whinge. No backbone.

Everybody is making it sound as if it is end of life as we know it. My son never went to UNi but went on to take his Master's, runs his own business and is a consultant to a number of an International companies. I mention this because if you want it bad enough you can have it.

You could've gone with 'corrected' instead of 'bumped up' here...

*Bumped up*. Seriously?

Also the u turn is not a win for students who were given unfairly low CAGs by their teachers - not all schools were overly optimistic. Students should be allowed to use the predicted grades they applied to university with. These are no more realistic/ unrealistic than the CAGs.

Never enough for some people

So many students have managed to scam the government out of inflated predicted grades that they were never going to achieve.

BBCPolitics Their grades have not been “bumped up”...they have been rectified.

BBCPolitics WTAF do these morons want

Still whining I see.

BBCPolitics Time to move on.

Bumped up 😡 given what they have worked hard for ALevelProtests HonourTheOffer

My message to students who are struggling to find a place at a university... there are alternatives to University!

Surely their GCSEs would be taken into account? My daughter's were;

The point being everyone got what they wanted or what teachers hoped they would get BUT not necessarily what they deserved or ability would have got them. So with inflated grade results university course requirements will also increase to maintain standards of students accepted.

You just pissed off a generation of voters, another amazing own goal for the Tories.

A-level and GCSE results in England to be based on teacher assessments in U-turnOfqual standardisation model scrapped after outcry from pupils, teachers and MPs Now the distraction is over, can we go back to talking about the recession? You need to get the language right. 'Teacher grades' is too simplistic. They are centre grades. Some teacher grades would have been altered by SLT. Much better outcome but teachers need better protection here.
