All A-level and GCSE results in England will be based on teacher-assessed grades, the government has confirmed, in a spectacular U-turn after an outcry among pupils, teachers and politicians.
'Brad...your dad got 10gs to spare?' 😂😂😂
Shock. This government are literally a joke.
Glad to see the 'U-Turn' sigh is held up the right way round this time... In a previous photo she held it upside-down
Great... but what an utter hash of it the Government has made 😖
That’s good news but what about the places that have already been turned down? Are they honoured now?
This is not a U-turn. It is the government being lifted up by the country's young people, spun 180 degrees, and set back down facing the way that everybody but them knew was right. Well done to everyone who took some of the weight. Up yours to Gavin Williamson and the government.
Imagine voting for this U-turning shit show.
What about pupils who obtained a higher mock grade than that submitted by the school who graded under the mistaken belief that they couldn’t exceed their pass rate? Is Gavin Williamson going to honour the pledge that mock results can be used if higher than the algorithm result?
Why it has taken this long to make a u turn? The damage has already been done. The students have lost their chances some courses have been filled.. what a f**ked up
IanDunt gavingetsU?
Imagine the shock that they've had to do this. Fucking imbeciles
Once again Scotland set the example little england has to follow

Great that theyve realised the disaster this has caused...but isn't it too late for all those who've lost university places this year? Universities can't exact retract offers if they have already filled courses after rejecting some students....toolittletoolate
IanDunt what about the unis that have already filled up all their spaces with posh kids?
This all looks good on paper but grade inflation by whatever means is not going to be helpful in the long term. The ability of an individual needs to be tested and we all need to learn to fail at times.
HuntedRaccoon
What’s going to happen to the 40% inflated grades in private schools?
GavinWilliamson position Untenable. ACCountability ?
Thank goodness. How GavinWilliamson can possibly keep his job after this is beyond me. BorisJohnson should sack him, but won’t. Imagine for a moment the papers’ reaction if this had been Corbyn and Rayner presiding over such a shambles. 😳😳😳
What about all the lost uni places? What happens with that?!!
Finally, let's hope that the class of 2020 are resilient enough to bounce back from the farcical situation in which they have unwittingly found themselves
This will result in substantial grade inflation which means that results are meaningless in comparison to previous or subsequent years.
Great result. But these lot are pushing the boundaries to see what they can get away with. They don’t want working class people to succeed. Bastards.
Good but the damage is done
Anyone know what's happened to the mock grades promise? Has that been dropped?
embarrassing red faced tories
When will the British public realise that the Torries will never do anything in the best interests of the working man/woman and their children? This shambolic lot are just another example of the worst of politicians.
What is happening with BTECs GavinWilliamson ? Don’t vocational qualifications matter? Why no clarification on BTEC results?
It would save a lot of stress if they just did the U-turn earlier like they did in Scotland. Would also be nice if they apologised to the English students
👏🏼 and now GW should resign. Enough is enough.
Hurray sense at lady
Can we have a U turn on Brexit now as well please?
Great news! At least now clearance could be used by students who didn't initially have a place...
UK government doing donuts in the street like the dodgy thieving barrow boys that they are
Johnson’s motto. “I’ll turn when I want to. “
'centre grades' is more appropriate. However, substantial grade inflation will be the result. Some students may not have been marked fairly due to unconscious or conscious bias.
Do the right thing, but only after you've tried everything else
Thus, performance is subjective? I'm much prefer to be graded on my performance on a test than on the opinion(s) of teacher assessment This change is not an optimistic change. It is actually pessimistic one It will unfairly hurt some & unfairly benefit others Regards, Slim
Teacher: What do you call a Tory policy announcement? Student: A sudden U-turn

Wow! 👏👏👏 it's never too late to do the right thing!!! We're sure guidance will come out shortly regarding students who have accepted sub optimal university positions so be patient 😀 ALevelsResults
Let’s hope as many universities as possible can accommodate those pupils who unfairly lost their places due to the algorithm, to the benefit of those massively upgraded.
So what happens? I've been given my grade and accepted a place, do I have to appeal in order to get my higher grade, or when I get my actual certificate will it just be what I was predicted ?
This government cannot get anything right... a shambles of incompetence.
Has that useless fecker Williamson resigned yet?
Conservatives Magnificent c*ck up
Read this on the BBC, or the CCD as it’s now known post A-Level results
how or will it undo the damage?
Now the distraction is over, can we go back to talking about the recession?
You need to get the language right. 'Teacher grades' is too simplistic. They are centre grades. Some teacher grades would have been altered by SLT. Much better outcome but teachers need better protection here.
