New data shows which schools are next in line for air conditioning, and whether they meet the benchmark 30 degree January average

As the $500 million school air conditioning program rolls out across the state, the opposition has accused the government of failing to prioritise schools in areas with the highest temperatures.

The next tranche of projects will focus on high-temperature areas in rural and regional areas, according to NSW Education Department data.Installation is under way at a further 35 schools, more than half of them in areas where the average January temperature – calculated over 20 years – is more than 30 degrees. Of the 59 schools in the design phase, more than two thirds are above the 30 degree benchmark.

Some 1400 schools have put up their hands for air conditioning under the program, which is expected to take five years and cost $500 million.

Surely the students will demand they remain turned off to help fight climate change though.

Are these the same kids who went on strike for climate change? Demanding air conditioning in their schools? 🙄

But the kids protested ClimateStrike & adani so they should be happy to sit in the sweltering heat, far be it from them to want the technology of coal power & carbon foot print penalties to turn on aircon! Bigot much. aussieed

We don't need Airconditioning for most children. Children's bodies are very efficient at coping with all kinds of weather. Very young children, sick children and the elderly need Airconditioning but the rest don't. Not everyone is a little sensitive petal. Oh may be at Tibaburra.

Take the air conditioners away from politicians offices until schools get them
