Independent schools have struck a new partnership with Catholic schools to share expertise and resources in areas such as teacher training, education research and student wellbeing.

The sectors have hailed the initiative as a significant contribution to education in the state, with the Association of Independent Schools chief executive Geoff Newcombe saying it will "really contribute to education reform".Louise Kennerley

"We felt maybe we should start to talk about sharing some resources. We [independent schools] are very strong in the professional learning areas, we run 200-300 courses a year and we will make those available to Catholic teachers. SCS executive director Tony Farley said there was significant teaching and administrative expertise across all three school organisations.
