Tropical Storm Nestor has been downgraded after it spawned a tornado that damaged homes and a school in central Florida. 9News

"There have been no issues," said Mayor Al Cathey, whose city is still recovering. He said the sky Saturday morning was streaked with blue.The Polk County Sheriff's Office said Saturday several homes were damaged and Kathleen Middle School had a large section of its roof torn off when the tornado hit late Friday near Lakeland, about an hour's drive southwest of Orlando.

The system could dump from 500 to 100 centimetres of rain from the central Gulf Coast to the eastern Carolinas and as much as 150 centimetres in spots, forecasters said. Forecasters said Nestor was centred Saturday near Panama City, Florida. It had top sustained winds of 80km/h and was moving to the northeast at 14km/h.
