The Australian National University has released a detailed account of how its servers were hacked in 2018, but failed to answer the most important question.

Almost one year after it was hacked in 2018, the Australian National University released a play-by-play account of how sensitive student and staff data was stolen from its servers.Doing so can be both logistically difficult and politically fraughtspear-phishing emails and malware, but one significant thing is missing: who did it.Inside a massive cyber attack on the Australian National University that risks compromising high-ranking officials across the globe.

"Organised crime potentially has the ability to do it and certainly all of these groups going forward are going to have more and more capabilities." When Australia is hacked, government officials sometimes describe the culprit as a"sophisticated state actor" but go no further. In its report, the ANU details the lengths the hackers went to cover their tracks, wiping logs, disks and files to hide their activity.
