Private schools have been hit by a drop in enrolments, forcing some to take on debt to compete for students, as parents squeezed by rising costs and sluggish wage growth opt for the public system.Michele Mossop
The overall number of students enrolled in private schools increased by 0.4 per cent in 2017 and 0.3 per cent in 2018. Schools in this position are under pressure to take on debt to fulfil parents’ expectations for school facilities and programs, he said. The report analysed 78 Australian non-government schools in the Catholic and independent sectors, using census and MySchool data and schools’ financial records.

adamlcarey Multiple billions of taxpayers dollars go to private schools. This is entrenching inequality, often generational. Every child has a right to a quality education, public education is not just an investment in individuals, but in our society as a whole.

adamlcarey Maybe this silly fad is fading. Teachers usually are not any better at private elite schools. Plenty of facilities - but little of the really core skills needed for uni and life. Private schools are for networking junkies.
