The grandmother of a 4-year-old Texas boy is outraged and believes her grandson is being discriminated against after she says his school told him he had to change the way he wore his long hair.

Randi Woodley’s grandson Michael came home after school one day and told her “there’s something wrong with my hair.”

“He told me that I could either cut it, braid it and pin it up, or put my grandson in a dress and send him to school and when prompted, my grandson must say he's a girl," she told local television station KETK. Woodley and other parents believe the dress code discriminates against African American boys, which is why they held a board meeting to demand the school make changes.

My day is so much better informed now...

I is unabow to follow rules in place for yeers...

You put the child into a school with a dress code. Your child does not meet the dress code standards. Meet standards or change schools. This is your problem NOT the schools. After reading the codes I don't see anything race discriminating either in the codes.

Some schools have a dress codes, if you don’t like it, you have the option to go else where. Why is it everybody has to make things about themselves all the time. As I have rules at work I have to follow, the child should learn there is rules to follow at schools.

in all fairness he does look like a little girl, but to demand that they cut his hair is another story.

Are you kidding me leave that child alone.Hey Theres nothing wrong with your long hair it's the discriminating school. SHAME ON YOU I've had long hair all my life including public school.😁

Unbelievable

Schools are corrupt they only there to teach

This story / tweet just got muted! WHO CARES! Slow news day...

Why not post a picture of the boy?

Why do people run to the media when someone acts like a jerk or they get offended by something? Bravo for exploiting your kid grandma.

Dress code

Oh bullshit. A dress code is a dress code.

the fraud must be public !

Slow news day.

What happened to Canada nice?

He does look like a girl

Geez honey bunny in texas, what is wrong with the schools there? Sick folk.

Nice salad...get a haircut

Being discriminated? It might be cool to have long hair but maintaining a little decorum in school isn’t discrimination it is bringing in some discipline sadly he is getting the wrong edu at home

Poor baby.....it's all just hurting him. If he wants his hair long then let it be long, and if he wants it short then let it be short. This is horrible adult behaviour.

Pre-existing dress code applies to everyone. No discrimination.

Let me guess... she is black also... so it is perfectly allowed in Ttump America to discriminate on the basis of hair? But they're black so that makes everything Okay... And I bet they are poor. Can someone at the ACLU volunteer to sue that school back to the Eisenhower era?

Ppl are full of it , anything for attention

Then I read the article and it makes sense. No discrimination here. Not a lot of Black Guys out there with hair long enough to be put in a bun

In my Jamaican accent I say. A what kind a f..re is this

I have two words for that school policy starts with a F... ends with OFF!

Okay that is gender discrimination let alone insulting. Any man or boy any age has the Right to grow their hair long. As a 3rd Gen Irishman in the middle ages Celtics warriors had long hair as a sign of strength & sexual stamina. Today it's still considered a sign of strength

I can think of a few other folks with long hair.

I was sent home on picture day because I had a T-shirts on and told to come back with a shirt with a collar.....we were too poor, I didn’t have a shirt with a collar...that was around 1971....still happening.....Wear pink everyone....it’s not working

What school would say something like that to a child. Schools are meant to educate. Not discriminate. I'd sue the school. For discrimination against clothing apparel. They can't tell you how to dress your kid.

You do have to admit, he looks like a girl. Is that his choice or his parents? One must wonder, because at that age, parents are a huge influence over how their kids look.

Texas.

Texas. Guns good, hair dangerous.

Dear Canadians, It continues to be a terribly slow news day in Canada. So we at CTV News have chosen & purchased this USA story from AP News specifically for our Canadian audience. Please continue to enjoy these “cut & paste” USA tweets while we search for more Canadian content

So if a woman have short hair, should we ask her to wear a jean? Well I don't care if this boy have long hair or short hair. The only one who's 'disturb' are the stupid teacher and the admin of the school. Not hair cut and no dress because of long hair.

That is ridiculous!

This is disgusting. The teacher should be fired. This is a beautiful child. Who cares if this child has long or short hair. Remember hippies.....?

The staff should be fired for even suggesting such a humiliating thing.

So when did texas become the new florida?

Please name this school, the actual person who said this, then we will collectively demand that the school board reprimand, perhaps suspend this employee for such a horrid comment, and perhaps the person’s employment in a school working with children needs to be reviewed.

Change schools

In beautiful downtown Toronto? No,Texas. Thanks CTV

Sick she should be committed

Schools need to mind their own business and look after their own issues. This is the problem they are trying to raise children instead of the parents. If the boys hair is clean, neat and not disturbing anyone leave him alone.

It's Texas!

Looks like a girl.

I knew I’d lose my hair one day - but at 17?At first it seemed unfair, but as Zac Easton writes, I’m now a student of the ways of the bald with all the confidence I ever needed to succeed I didn't realize it but my hair was receding 19. It was severely thinning by 22 and I was bald by 25. I mostly don't give a hoot except when my head burns or when someone thinks I should. People who do care, or make it obvious that they care, are usually male, 25 & under 6 feet.
