JUST IN: 'Out of school children hits 16 million' - The Nation Newspaper

The immediate past Education Minister, Mr. Adamu Adamu on Wednesday said that the number of out-of-school children in the country now stood at over 16 million.

The new figure of 16 million, however, contradicts the 13 million out of school children being bandied around by some people. He blamed the high number on poor funding of education in the country by states and the Federal Government. Senate President, Ahmad Lawan, said the legislature and the executive arms of government should work together to get the children back to the classrooms.
