We asked some of Australia's top high school debaters for their verdict on the leader showdown auspol | MaxKoslowski

The debate between Prime Minister Scott Morrison and Opposition Leader Bill Shorten wasn’t the only one James Price, Maja Vasic, Jinyoung Kim, Ally Pitt, Laura Charlton and Anna-Sophia Zahar watched on Wednesday.

Ahead of the national championships later this month, the NSW Schools Debating Team spent the day finessing their own skills of persuasion during a training session in Sydney. But they did find a spare hour to share their thoughts onBill Shorten discussed individual people he had met in hospitals across Australia. Was that a good move?I think the strategy of identifying individual examples is interesting, but problematic. It humanises Bill but it isn’t necessarily a response to the point raised.
