The New South Wales Joint Counter-Terrorism team are investigating the matter, but police say a motive has not been established. Ambulances were called to the site at inner-city Camperdown about 8.30am on Tuesday and found a 22-year-old man with stab wounds in the neck. Police were told the alleged attacker got on a bus and a short time later, a 14-year-old boy was arrested near Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, which neighbours the university. The boy was known to police.
"This young person's activity is unknown, but I would say that it's likely to be categorised as mixed and unclear ideology," police assistant commissioner Mark Walton said. "It's certainly not a religiously related ideology." The injured man was taken to hospital in a stable condition. Police said the teenager did not know the man before the alleged stabbing and had no links to the defence force or cadets.
