School pupils showcased their cheerleading talents at a competition and left with multiple impressive wins. Five teams from Alder Grange secondary school in Rawtenstall took part in the United Kingdom Cheerleading Association School National Championships at Belle Vue sports village, Manchester on Sunday, June 16.

The KS3 Street Dance team ‘AG Typhonic’ placed first in the KS3 Urban Cheer category while the KS4 Street Dance team ‘AG Ferocity’ placed first in the KS4 Urban Cheer category. The Pom Dance team ‘AG Adrenaline’ also placed first in the KS3 Pom Dance division, which was the largest division on the day against 15 other teams.

“The pupils’ families have also been incredible supporters this year, we would like to thank them for everything they have done for the team. From transporting pupils to and from events to cheering us on from the stands, they have been great and we really appreciate it. The KS3 Cheerleading team ‘AG Cats’ placed 4th in the KS3 level 2 Cheerleading division after originally placing first. Unfortunately due to a difficult skill being accidentally thrown in excitement, which was prohibited for that level, they received a deduction and dropped to 4th place.
