NUS sexual misconduct case: Penalties were 'manifestly inadequate'; other universities to review frameworks for similar offences, says Ong Ye Kung

"From here on, for offences that affect the safety of students on campus, we have to take a tough stand, and send a strong signal to everyone," Mr Ong wrote in his post.

He said he spoke to the NUS president and board chairman to convey his concerns about the penalties imposed by NUS and added that he was confident the university's review will"result in a more robust process and stricter framework". NUS said on Monday that it will convene a committee to review its current disciplinary and support frameworks.

A lot more need to be done! CONSCIOUSNESS, ACTIONS and RESPONSIBILITIES!

Why revolve around the university, should be a criminal case to be handled by the police and court.

Zero torlerence is needed with highest punishments immediately like all major univeristies in the word NUSingapore NTUsg MOEsg for such offences in today's social media exposed society with wider exposure and negative effect, pain and hurt for victims. Chg rules for this era.

MOEsg thenewpaper STcom TODAYonline With regards to his statement against NUSingapore, is Mr Ong Ye Kung considering the penalties for other universities which looks pretty ambiguous, after research, with the support from MustShareNews. Heterosexual Mansplaining Society

NUSingapore hv school of law or sumting rite? So all the textbooks, tests, thesis end up in the dean's ass? Hope this blot on such a 'prestigious' tertiary institution b impossible to erase so tat all parties concerned b shamed for being utterly useless!

As was the punishment meted out by the Court. I'm seriously more concerned abt AGD's handling of the case than I am with NUS. The culprit will get away scot free if he does not get caught for the same crime within a year. How is that justice? Petty thieves get harsher penalties!!

Absolutely. NUS only gives chance to offenders but who is to give chance to the victims who may suffer for life? It is no wonder there re many cases in NUS. NUS be responsible n put a stop to this!
