In my experience (I accept that I'm becoming something of a curmudgeon in my old age but nevertheless) some of the dumbest folk I've encontered are those in a. the educational bureaucracy and b. road and traffic design, management and signage
Ah, but by all means please do continue equating good teaching with the ability to churn out hundreds of pretty little lesson plans. And keep on loading teachers with busy work that has two fifths of bugger all with actual teaching.
They have been saying this for the last 10 years and I as a science teacher call bull$hit!

-ve community attitudes of teachers, long hrs marking, prepping, extra-curricula activities & onerous administrative task (sure, go on about weeks holiday) & the wages that don’t compensate 4 yrs of study, and as a former teacher I say, educate yr own kids, who’d want that job!
A few years ago, 5 or so, there were in NSW an unbelievable 44k teachers who were either not employed or not fully employed. Yes we have always been short of Maths and Science teachers.
There is no shortage. You can basically teach for life. Impossible to get fired. This is just university deans trying to keep enrolments high.
The ones coming out of university are incompetent. Best we import decent teachers from Asia.
There has been a shortage of male teachers in Australia’s primary schools for decades. Nothing happens. Pfft. 🙄
Maybe it’s time to change the way education is delivered. Internet schooling for those who can fit with this kind of scheme?
