A Dauphin County jury sided with a former Penn State football team doctor who claimed the school removed him for complaining about head coach James Franklin interfering with medical treatment. After a seven-day trial in Harrisburg, the jury on Wednesday awarded Dr. Scott Lynch $5.25 million in punitive and compensatory damages.Lynch told ESPN he hopes the verdict will prompt an investigation by the NCAA.
Penn State Health said in a statement, 'We are extremely disappointed to learn of the jury's decision, as we continue to believe that the claims in the complaint have no merit.'The health system added that it will soon determine whether it will appeal the decision.Lynch filed suit in August 2019 after being removed as the football team's orthopedic physician and director of medicine at Penn State.
