Two newcomers and an incumbent secured seats on the Uvalde Consolidated Independent School District board Saturday in the first trustee election since the May 24, 2022, tragedy. Jaclyn Gonzales, a professional counselor in the community, will join the board alongside Jesus “Jesse” Rizo, uncle of Robb Elementary shooting victim Jackie Cazares. Cal Lambert, first elected to the board in 2020, will also retain his seat.
More than 4,530 community members cast their votes, according to official results posted on Uvalde County’s website. Gonzales earned the highest vote count at 899. Her campaign has focused on rebuilding a safe, supportive learning environment in a community still reeling from tragedy. Rizo followed behind with 785 votes.
