PROVIDENCE, R.I. —The school sent letters to some students on Saturday, warning of discipline if they continue to violate school rules regarding an ongoing encampment protest against the Israel-Hamas war. Spokespeople for the Gaza Solidarity Encampment said they were given until Monday at 5 p.m. to clear their tents from the Main Green area on campus.Since Wednesday at 6 a.m., Rafi Ash and more than one hundred other students have camped out on the Main Green area.
But on Saturday, some of those who took part or entered the encampment received letters warning of disciplinary action. In Brown University's letter, the school threatens probation with students required to stay away from any form of protest or encampment on the campus. If violations are not accepted, cases will proceed to an administrative review meeting that may lead to other disciplinary actions.But the encampment said as of Saturday night, they are not budging.
