Morning FastCast digital headlines for Wednesday, April 24, 2024.ANCHORAGE, Alaska - Officials from the Anchorage School District said in a work session on Tuesday they will be announcing a multi-year school closure and consolidation plan in the fall and wants community feedback on those plans.

A presentation given by district executive Jim Anderson at the work session showed declining enrollment in the district since the 2010 fiscal year, when the district had just under 50,000 students. Now the district has just over 43,000 students — a drop of nearly 6,000 students. The current enrollment projections also anticipate a declining enrollment into the near future, unless there is some significant economic event.

A website, polls and survey will be launched this week for initial feedback on how the community feels about closing, consolidating or repurposing facilities as the district seeks its priorities.
