Tara Soederstrom said her favorite part of being an educator is “those moments when you see a student’s eyes light up because they have been struggling and things finally make sense.”
The contest is sponsored by Reader’s Digest and the winner will receive $25,000, a trip to Hawaii and will appear in the magazine. Besides teaching math, Soederstrom also sponsored a Grief Group at the school, to help students who have been touched by loss. Soederstrom said if she won, some of the money would be spent on shopping for crafts for the students in the Grief Group.
“It is difficult because our supplies are through donations and that can be limiting. I would love to even take the students in the group on a field trip,” said Soederstrom.
