A Hucknall school is earmarked for demolition after new plans were drawn up for a major rebuild. Under proposals submitted by Tilbury Douglas Construction to Ashfield District Council, existing facilities at Broomhill Junior School, within a single-storey block constructed in the 1960s, could be knocked down.
The redevelopment project is funded through the Government's School Rebuilding Programme, which carries out major rebuilding and refurbishment projects at schools and sixth forms across England. Buildings are prioritised according to their condition."For schools to be eligible for SRP they need to be in severe and urgent condition in terms of their buildings, and have potential to cause significant harm to students or staff," a statement in the planning documents states.
This would be achieved through minor adjustments to the position of existing kerb lines and by reconfiguring the parking arrangement through new white line marking. The school currently has 272 pupils enrolled and could reach its full capacity of 300 students by September.
