Following concerns raised by some sectors, the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) said it will support any investigation on the alleged influx of Chinese students in Cagayan.

Following concerns raised by some sectors, the Commission on Higher Education said it will support any investigation on the alleged influx of Chinese students in Cagayan.In a statement on Thursday, CHED clarified that apart from St. Paul University – Tuguegarao, there were no Chinese students enrolled in other public colleges and universities.CHED said only St. Paul University – Tuguegarao, has the proper authority to accept international students.

The agency said foreign students are often attracted by the affordable quality education and the English instructional medium offered by Philippine schools.A Cagayan congressman is seeking a House inquiry into an apparent increase in Chinese students in the province, saying their presence could put the country’s security at risk amid China's aggression in the West Philippine Sea.
