School Hall,Lane Cove Public,Delays

Lane Cove Public School has yet to build a replacement school hall four years after the original one burnt down. Parents have had to cover transportation costs, band rehearsals have been relocated, and school holiday programs have been canceled. The delay is attributed to budget cuts and the bankruptcy of the appointed builder.

When the school hall at Lane Cove Public burnt down in the 2020 summer holidays, parents were told a replacement would soon be built.

This year, parents started an online petition to get the school hall finished. After inquiries from this newspaper, the Department of Education said work would begin in April. A department spokesperson said the delay was thanks to “legal considerations” arising from the previous builder going into administration.

They were promised upgrades after attracting media attention in February, and the department agreed to refurbish the change rooms to accommodate students with additional needs. “I am not against the teachers getting salary increases but the problem is the pay rise does not appear to have been budgeted for,” Hope said.
