The Rochester City School District's Board of Education voted Thursday night to end the partnership between East High School and the University of Rochester. Community members pleaded for the continuation or extension of the educational partnership organization , but the board voted to end the collaboration after June 2025.Board members in favor of ending the EPO outlined financial concerns ahead of Thursday night's vote. They say the district has contributed $22 million without help from the U of R.

Other members against ending it say the school has made major progress under the partnership. Ultimately, members voted 4-3 to end the EPO."There's no vote that will ever diminish the transformation that has happened at East, or the positive impact that we have had on lives at East," she said. "I'm incredibly proud of the staff and the commitment to our kids, and the support that the U of R has provided.

"Whether we have an EPO or not, if people love our children, that work is going to continue," said Cynthia Elliott, president of RCSD's Board of Education. "We as a board have to look at our future financial position."
