set up by the Community Leadership Team of Tom Green Elementary has raised over $40,000 for those affected by a
The crash happened just before 2 p.m. as the Hays CISD school bus was traveling west on State Highway 21. The 44 children, all between the ages of four and six, and 11 adults on board were coming back from a field trip to the Bastrop Zoo. According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, a concrete truck veered into the westbound lane and struck the front of the school bus. As a result of the initial crash, a Black Charger collided with the back of the bus. That driver died in the crash as well as a young boy who was a Pre-K student at Tom Green Elementary.
“One of the Tom Green Elementary School buses was involved in a fatal accident today during a Pre- K field trip,” GoFundMe organizer Molly Andrews said. “A precious young boy was lost, and there are no words that will ever express the sorrow behind this, or for the death of a person who was driving a car that was on the road behind the bus. 51 others have been injured.”Although 51 people were injured, not all were taken to the hospital.
“This community is need of our help. This is a horrible and tragic day for Hays CISD and all of our Hornets at Tom Green. If you are in any way that can give additional services please let us know,” the GoFundMe said.A memorial is also set up at the school for the young boy who died. Flowers were placed by the school sign, along with an Easter basket and two stuffed rabbit toys.
