When the Reds arrived in Toronto on Monday, they brought a small treasure chest with them. Inside were seven figurines. When they pull the proper one after a win, the player of the game takes two cautious swings with his stick, coming close to the figurine, and his teammates yell, "Fake."The Reds breezed through 2023-24 with a combined exhibition, regular and post-season record of 43-0, and have gone 47-0 dating back to last year's playoff run and national championship.
"He recruits people first instead of players," said UNB defenceman Kale McCallum of Quispamsis, N.B. "There's not a single guy on this team who isn't a great guy. They are character people, and they do everything they have to to get the job done. The speedy and skilled Reds received a solid final-game effort from all four lines and three defence pairings.
Jackson Doherty gave the host team a 2-1 lead at the 7:52 mark of the final frame, but Frattaroli, a third-year centre, tied the game and scored the winner with 1:21 remaining.The Concordia Stingers are back on the mountain top of U Sports women's hockey. Concordia also captured the U Sports title the first two times it was contested in 1998 and 1999, when U Sports was known as the Canadian Intercollegiate Athletic Union . The first win in 1998 also came against the Varsity Blues by a 4-1 score, when the Stingers claimed the national title as host squad.In Sunday's final, Emilie Lussier, Jessymaude Drapeau and Rosalie Begin-Cyr scored for the Stingers. Emma Potter replied for the Varsity Blues.
