Colleen Hoover's best-selling novel 'It Ends With Us' will not return to Mat-Su district schools after board members voted 6-1 to ban the book permanently.

The board voted 6-1 to permanently remove “It Ends With Us” by Colleen HooverPublished: Feb.

“The committee unanimously concluded meets the elements of criminal obscenity under Alaska law,” McCullom said during Wednesday’s meeting.that were challenged by district parents, staff and community members. That list was published in the spring of 2023 after an outpouring of public criticism at school board meetings.to read, review and recommend actions on the challenged titles.

Five other books — “Breathless” by Jennifer Niven; “Forever” by Judy Bloom; “Flamer” by Mike Curato; “It’s Perfectly Normal” by Robie Harris; and “The Bluest Eye” by Toni Morrison — were found by the advisory committee to be in potential violation of state law, leaving it up to the district’s administration to make the final decision on their fate.

Those books are “Crank” by Ellen Hopkins; “Freedom Writers Diary” by Erin Gruwell; “Nineteen Minutes” by Jodi Picolt; “This One Summer” by Mariko Tamaki; “The Perks of Being a Wallflower” by Stephen Chbosky; “Sold” by Patricia McCormick; “The Handmaid’s Tale” by Margaret Atwood; and “The Lovely Bones” by Alice Sebold.
