A fourth-grade student in the La Mesa-Spring Valley School District has raised hundreds of dollars for flood victims by selling hand-made bracelets.

When nine-year-old Sonja Bella Hans saw the damage and desperation caused by last month's first round of historic flooding, the Lemon Avenue Elementary fourth-grader knew she had to do something.

While all of that was happening, Sonja decided to start a community fundraiser called"Bracelets for Bancroft."Sonja Bella Hans, 9, sold handmade plastic bead bracelets at her school, Lemon Avenue Elementary, last week to raise money for flood victims, La Mesa, Calif., Feb. 12, 2024
