The Archdiocese of Newark announced the opening of its third Mercy House in Elizabeth on Oct. 25.The Mercy House, a resource and referral center that operates under the Archdiocese of Newark, has opened a new location in Union County to help migrants, low-income families and anyone in need.
“We witness miracles all the time — individuals who arrive in a state of despair, and through our efforts, we’re able to provide for their needs,” Riley said. “This valuable initiative truly embodies the teachings of Jesus in the gospel, actively enhancing the lives of those we serve,” he said. The demand from migrants has grown so much that the Mercy House has needed to recruit volunteer translators who speak other languages, including French Creole, Igbo, Jamaican Patois and Spanish, to help, a release said.
